21-23 January 2026 | Loulé

Portugal’s first animation market, organised by APPA – the Portuguese Association of Animation Producers, will take place in Loulé from 21 to 23 January 2026, bringing together producers, distributors, television channels, funders and artists from across the Ibero-American region.

The Portugal Film Commission will be present at this inaugural edition, in which Brazil will be the guest of honour, promoting co-productions and strengthening the Portuguese language within the Ibero-American space.

This conversation brings together key figures who play an active role in shaping the future of the Archipelago in the Seventh Art: Regional Director for Tourism, Rosa Costa, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission, Ana Marques, Director of Futurismo Azores Adventures, Carlos Picanço, and filmmakers Gonçalo Tocha and André Laranjinha, whose cameras have been capturing the soul of the islands.

The workshop will be conducted in Portuguese. Participation is free and there is no need to register.

In 2025, the Portugal Film Commission will be present at FOCUS London, sharing a stand with the Loulé Film Office. The space will invite professionals to discover the conditions offered by Portugal to attract international productions.

In this edition, the Portugal Film Commission will host a session entitled “Filming in Portugal – Great Locations, Wonderful Stories”, taking place on December 9 at 3:40 p.m., followed by a Portugal-themed cocktail.

The event brings together professionals from film, audiovisual, advertising and gaming, positioning itself as a hub for learning and networking.

A satisfaction survey for citizens, applicants and beneficiaries of the Portuguese Film and Audiovisual Institute (ICA) is currently underway, with the aim of supporting the continuous improvement of the services provided.

Based on the responses collected, the goal is to identify new approaches and ensure increasingly effective support.

In 2025, Porto/Post/Doc will once again host the Luso-Galician Forum – Creativity and Coproduction, taking place on 24 November. The event is the result of a partnership between the Portugal Film Commission, the Axencia Galega das Industrias Culturais (Xunta de Galicia) and the Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival.

Throughout the day, participants will take part in individual pre-scheduled meetings as well as informal networking moments. Applications are open to production companies with audiovisual or film projects, across all genres and formats.

“A Collective / Inarticulate Harmony” is the theme of this year’s edition of Doc’s Kingdom, with a programme that traces historical and contemporary practices of collective cinema across different geopolitical contexts.

The International Documentary Film Seminar, celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special edition featuring film screenings, debates and other activities, will include the institutional presence of the Portugal Film Commission.

7-9 November | Lisbon

The Portugal Film Commission will host the Green Film Lab workshop in Lisbon from 7 to 9 November.

This training initiative by the Torino Film Lab focuses on sustainable practices and is aimed at European industry professionals and sustainability managers, with or without an associated project. The application period ran from 15 July to 19 September.

The Portugal Film Commission will once again take part in the Audiovisual Ideas Market at the São Paulo International Film Festival.

In addition to meetings with producers, creators and partners, the Portugal Film Commission will host a Welcome Coffee on 25 October at 9:00 AM, in the Foyer Grande Otelo of the Cinemateca Brasileira.

The festival’s programme also features a wide selection of Portuguese films, as well as several activities organised in collaboration with the Consulate General of Portugal and the Camões Institute.

Doclisboa 2025 will take place from October 16 to 26, in the venues that traditionally host the festival – Culturgest, Cinema São Jorge, Cinemateca Portuguesa and Cinema Ideal.

In this edition, the Portugal Film Commission joins the Nebulae programme, the festival’s industry space that brings together professionals from across the world.

15-16 October | Valladolid, Spain

In 2025, the Portugal Film Commission will once again take part in the Shooting Locations Marketplace, with the aim of holding meetings with producers, location managers and scouts from around the world. The Feria de Valladolid will once again host the event, this time on October 15 and 16.

13-16 October | Cannes, France

MIPCOM Cannes, one of the most important markets focused on audiovisual and international content co-production, will feature the presence of the Portugal Film Commission in its 2025 edition, taking place from October 13-16.

As in previous years, the Portugal Film Commission will share a stand with the Association of Independent Television Producers (APIT), RTP, SIC and TVI, showcasing the strength of the Portuguese sector at the event.

October 2025

As part of the 26th French Film Festival, which takes place from October 2nd to 12th, the 1st Luso-Francophone Coproduction Meeting will take place, an initiative dedicated to the development of feature-length fiction projects co-produced between Portugal, France and French-speaking countries.

The three-day event (to be announced) is aimed at directors and producers developing their first or second feature film. It will feature pitching sessions, one-on-one meetings, workshops, and lectures with international industry professionals.

The second edition of the professional meetings “From Film to Series” will take place as part of the 26th French Film Festival, in partnership with the Portugal Film Commission and the Portuguese Film and Audiovisual Institute (ICA).

With access reserved to invited guests and curated by Carole Desbarats, this meeting invites a collective reflection on the role of the producer in the process of creating series.

9-12 September | Fundão

“The strength of audiovisual as a tool to promote territories beyond borders” is the theme of the roundtable taking place on 11 September at 10:00, as part of the 18th ART&TUR – International Tourism Film Festival.

The role of film commissions in promoting territories is widely acknowledged as one of the most structural pillars in implementing financial, logistical, and infrastructural practices within international film production. Their work generates opportunities and facilitates knowledge-sharing, often playing a decisive role in the choice of filming locations.

The roundtable will feature Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission, alongside a representative from the Castilla y León Film Commission.

Noronha2B – Film Commission Forum is a strategic event for the promotion of Brazilian audiovisual in line with the tourism sector, with a focus on attracting productions to the territory and promoting Brazilian audiovisual.

The Portugal Film Commission will be at Conecta FICTION & ENTERTAINMENT, between the 16th and 19th of June, in the Spanish city of Cuenca.

Within the top 10 international tv markets in the audiovisual industry, the Conecta FICTION & ENTERTAINMENT focuses on the creation, development, production, financing, broadcasting, marketing and commercialization of television content.

17 June | Lisbon

The Portugal Film Commission joins the first edition of the Future World Film Festival, an international short film festival especially aimed at young talents that takes place at Cinema São Jorge on June 17th.

In 2025, Portugal will be the Guest of Honour at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, taking place from 6 to 14 June in the Mexican city.

The programme will feature a retrospective of Portuguese cinema, as well as exhibitions, talks and co-production meetings between Portuguese and Latin American producers.

The Portugal Film Commission will be present at the festival, as well as at the Guadalajara Film Market.

7-13 April | Porto

In 2025, the Portugal Film Commission joins the industry-focused programme of Porto Femme – International Film Festival.

This women-focused film festival aims to showcase and promote the work of individuals who identify as women, fostering equality and empowerment within the film industry.

22nd of March | Elvas

Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission, will take part in the discussion “Elvas as a Cinematic Setting” on 22 March at 10:30 AM at the Centro Artístico Elvense.

The session aims to explore the role of Alentejo as both a setting and an inspiration for film productions, as well as the impact these projects have on promoting the region.

The discussion is part of the programme for RONCA – Mostra de Cinema de Elvas. On the same day, the Elvas Film Office will also be officially launched.

17-21 March | Málaga, Spain

In 2025, the Portugal Film Commission will be present at La Village of MAFIZ – Málaga Festival Industry Zone, promoting the Pic Portugal incentives and positioning the country as a prime international destination for film and audiovisual productions.

MAFIZ serves as a key business and networking platform for professionals from Europe and Latin America.

This industry segment of the Málaga Film Festival also features a programme of events aimed at promoting and strengthening Ibero-American productions.

25-27 March | Lille, France

From March 25 to 27, the Portugal Film Commission will be attending the industry forum at Series Mania in Lille, France.

Over the course of three days, the event brings together writers, producers, commissioners, decision-makers, and other professionals from the audiovisual industry.

“Routes, sustainability and digital media” is the theme of the second International Conference on Literary and Film Tourism. Ana Marques, executive director of the Portugal Film Commission, will be part of the round table on “Literary and Film Tourism in the Algarve/Portugal”, on the 17 January at 2:30 pm.

The conference is organized by the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (University of the Algarve), the CETT Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy (University of Barcelona), the University of Caxias do Sul (Brazil) and the University of Groningen (The Netherlands). The event will host speakers from 16 countries.

10-11 December | London, England

This edition of FOCUS will once again feature the presence of the Portugal Film Commission, which will be showcased at its own stand to present the Portuguese sector, the Pic Portugal incentives, and the conditions available to productions in Portugal. The event anticipates the participation of audiovisual professionals from over 100 countries.

25th of November | Porto/Post/Doc, Porto

As a result of a partnership with the Portugal Film Commission and Axencia Galega das Industrias Culturais of Xunta de Galicia, the 2024 edition of Porto/Post/Doc will host the Luso-Galician Forum – creativity and co-production. This event, taking place on 25 November as part of the festival’s industry activities, aims to promote collaboration between production companies from Portugal and Galicia, strengthening established ties while welcoming new industry agents who are renewing the business and creative fabric of these two territories.

Registrations are now open for various profiles of companies working with audiovisual or cinematographic projects, as well as all genres and formats, ensuring participant diversity and event productivity.

During this day, individual meetings between participants (pre-scheduled by the organisation) and the presentation of the current panorama of co-productions between Galicia and Portugal will take place, along with other informal networking moments.

“Ways of Listening” is the theme for this edition of Doc’s Kingdom, aiming to develop critical perspectives on documentary filmmaking through the lens of sound. The Portugal Film Commission supports the organisation of this international documentary film seminar, which will bring together around 100 participants for a programme featuring film screenings, debates, walks, and other moments of sharing and dialogue.

The 22nd edition of Doclisboa takes place between  the 17th and 27th of October. This year, the Portugal Film Commission continues to support the Nebulae program, where participants explore the challenges and innovations that shape the present and future of the sector, promoting an open and collaborative dialogue.

The Portugal Film Commission will be back to the Audiovisual Ideas Market of São Paulo International Film Festival. An event focused on debates, business meetings, and networking.

The Portugal Film Commission will be participating in the 40th edition of MIPCOM Cannes, one of the most important markets focused on audiovisual and international content co-production. The four-day programme includes meetings, conferences, and networking events at the Palais des Festivals, in Cannes.

15-16 October | Valladolid, Spain

The Portugal Film Commission will participate on the Shooting Locations Marketplace’s fourth edition, which takes place between 15 and 16 of October at the Valladolid Trade Exhibition Centre.

The event will gather location scouts, location managers, executive producers and international film commissions, presenting itself as a commercial platform for shooting locations and production companies.

The Shooting Locations Marketplace is organized by Feria de Valladolid and the Spain Film Commission.

The Portugal Film Commission will be at Conecta FICTION & ENTERTAINMENT, between the 18th and 21st of June, in the Spanish city of Toledo.

Within the top 10 international tv markets in the audiovisual industry, the Conecta FICTION & ENTERTAINMENT focuses on the creation, development, production, financing, broadcasting, marketing and commercialization of television content.

The TorinoFilmLab Industry Day will take place on 18 June, at the Batalha Centro de Cinema in Porto.

This event, open to all industry professionals, will feature a diverse programme:

The Portugal Film Commission, together with the Portuguese Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), will be at the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa), taking place from 11 to 14 June in Annecy, France.

MIFA is the meeting point for the global animation industry. This participation aims to showcase Portugal and Portuguese animation cinema, in an edition where Portugal will be the featured country. The special programme dedicated to Portuguese animation includes film screenings, pitches, talks, masterclasses, among many other activities.

FICAS talks | “Audiovisual production and sustainability”

“Audiovisual production and sustainability” is the theme for the talk that will take place as part of FICAS – International Environmental and Sustainability Film Festival on 7 June, at 16h00, at Galeria Tratuário, in Funchal.

The session will feature Ana Marques, executive director of the Portugal Film Commission, Natércia Xavier, regional director of Culture, and João Santos, from Episódio Proeza Films.

The session “Tourism and film, a differential for Portugal” takes place on May 28, at 16h30, in CIBT – Centro de Incubação de Base Tecnológica do Turismo (Estoril).

Screen tourism and the role of digital in the efficiency of the productions are the topics that will be covered in a conversation between Ana Marques, executive director of the Portugal Film Commission, Dörte Schneider Garcia, president of the Association of Green Consultants Portugal – Repensar, and Joana Domingues, executive producer at Caracol Studios and participant of the ACE Mentoring Programme.

The session is organized by NEST – Centro de Inovação do Turismo and the Portugal Film Commission, being part of the programme NIT – NEST INNOVATION TALKS.

During these days, the Portugal Film Commission and the Portuguese Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA) present themselves at the stand Riviera D3.

The 77th edition of the Festival de Cannes – International film festival, which takes place between the 14th and 25th of May, will feature eight Portuguese films.

Animation / Gaming / VFX

The Atlas Festival takes place on May 10, at Etic, in Lisbon, organized by the creative studio Dialogue.

The event features the participation of professionals from the sector who will share experiences and inspire emerging talents in this area.

This year, four workshops are also part of the Festival. Just like the Festival, the participation is free of charge.

The Portugal Film Commission is an institutional partner of Atlas Festival 2024.

Environmental sustainability, Cash Rebate and Cash Refund

The decrees that regulate the Pic Portugal – Cash Rebate Incentive and the Pic Portugal – Cash Refund Incentive include environmental sustainability criteria.

Through this session open to the industry, the Portugal Film Commission and the Associação de Green Consultants Portugal – Repensar intend to clarify doubts related to these criteria which, for the first time in Portugal, may value the projects that apply for these incentives.

The Portuguese Film Academy and Netflix announce the opening of the “Pitch Me! All In!” competition, a residency program aimed at emerging screenwriters, in which the selected authors will be able to work on the development of their ideas with the guidance of a team of high-level professionals.

“Pitch Me! – All In!” is an initiative developed by the Portuguese Film Academy and Netflix, with the aim of contributing to a greater representation of people belonging to underrepresented segments of the population in the areas of cinema and audiovisual, such as: people with ethnic/cultural diversity, sexual diversity, gender diversity, functional diversity, people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, among others.

The competition, which will be open for applications between July 31 and September 7, will end with the selection of 8 projects (with a minimum of 3 feature films and 3 series projects). The winning projects will be developed over several months through a residency and mentoring program, focusing on the creation of the script and its presentation dossier. The initiative will end with the presentation of the winning projects in a pitching session addressed to professionals representing the Portuguese film and audiovisual industry.

The Marché du Film is one of the largest and most important events for film professionals.

Over 12,500 film industry professionals head to Cannes each year to present and discover almost 4,000 films and projects in development at 33 screening venues. Marché du Film takes place at the Palais Croisette in Cannes.
