A Generala

The 6 episode miniseries A Generala (The General), tells the story about Maria Luísa Paiva Monteiro, a woman who decides to challenge every rules and conventions, facing the patriarchal society, in Portugal, on the decades from 60 to 90’s. Inspired by a true story, the plot written by Vera Sacramento and Patrícia Muller, address Maria Luísa’s fight for freedom, the struggle for rights and privileges, which at the time, where reserved almost exclusively to men. To earn the respect of those around her, Maria Luísa decides to assume a false identity – that of a man – convinced that this would be the only way to survive in a society that segregated and minorized women.
