Located to the north of Torres Vedras, the Fort of São Vicente forms part of the first defensive line of the fortified system known as the Lines of Torres Vedras.

Built in 1809, it is regarded as one of the largest and most significant military constructions within the entire defensive system. The fort was equipped with 26 artillery pieces and accommodated a military contingent of between 2,000 and 2,200 men, with capacity to shelter around 4,000 soldiers.
