Rivers and marinas

The Bay of Angra do Heroísmo is located in the city of Angra do Heroísmo, on the southern coast of Terceira Island, in the Azores. Its waters have an average depth of 40 metres.

It holds historical significance as, from the 15th century onwards, it served as the safe harbour for the galleons of the India Run. These ships, laden with gold, silver, porcelain, spices, and other goods, would wait here to join the fleets before proceeding under the escort of the Armada of the Islands to the Kingdom.
