The Portugal Film Commission was present at the awards ceremony for the 1st edition of the Do(C)ôa Nature Film Festival, an initiative that promotes environmental cinema developed within the scope of the CÔA – Corredor das Artes – landscape art festival, organized by Rewilding Portugal. In this ceremony, which took place at the Côa Museum, the five finalist short films were presented and the prizes awarded to the winners:
BEST DIRECTOR – Bruno Navarro Award: Helen Woolston and John Quirk with “Fiadh à Fireach – The Hind”
BEST YOUNG DIRECTOR: Maria João Almeida with “Entranhas”
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Life Ilhas Barreira (Luís Ferreira), Sereno (Andrés Isaza) and Ribacôa (Francisco Bartilotti)
The event also included a panel discussion with the generic theme “Video art at the service of the preservation of cultural and environmental heritage”, with the participation of Laura Castro (Regional Director of Culture of the North), Ana Marques (Executive Director of Portugal Film Commission), João Vasconcelos (Executive Director of Canal 180) and João Cosme (director and nature photographer) and moderation by Pedro Russo (curator of Côa – Corredor das Artes). The event was hosted by actress and environmental activist Ana Varela and held in the Museum’s auditorium.
