Figueira da Foz is among the five finalists of the EUFCN Location Awards 2025, announced by the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN). The application was submitted by the Portugal Film Commission, highlighting the city’s central role in Broken Spies, a series supported by Pic Portugal – Cash Rebate Incentive.
The shortlist was revealed during the EUFCN event in London this Tuesday, 9 December, held alongside Focus London. In addition to Figueira da Foz – where around 50% of Broken Spies was filmed – the finalists are Belgrade (Serbia), Inari (Finland), La Palma (Spain) and Sangerhausen (Germany).

The awards, which annually recognise the best European locations used in film and audiovisual productions, received 13 submissions this year from film commissions and film offices across Europe. The proposals were evaluated by an international jury of industry professionals, who assessed the narrative impact of each location on its respective production.
Until 30 January, the public can vote online for the EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025. In parallel, the jury will choose the winner of the EUFCN Location Award 2025, with the results to be announced during the European Film Market in Berlin, in February 2026.
Portugal had already featured among the finalists in the 2023 edition, with Parque do Rio Hotel in Esposende, where João Canijo’s feature film Bad Living was entirely shot. Created to promote Europe’s geographical and cultural diversity and to highlight the work of professionals involved in location scouting and management, the EUFCN Location Awards underscore the importance of these settings for the competitiveness of the European audiovisual sector.
