Figueira da Foz won the EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025, a prize decided by public vote and presented by the EUFCN – European Film Commission Network. The announcement was made this Sunday, 15 February, during a ceremony held at the Radisson Collection Berlin, on the sidelines of the European Film Market (EFM).

“Winning this award shows that Portugal, and particularly Figueira da Foz, offers the right conditions and outstanding locations for major international audiovisual productions” highlighted Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission. As a member of EUFCN, the Portugal Film Commission submitted the application that emphasized the role of Figueira da Foz in Broken Spies, a series supported by Pic Portugal – Cash Rebate Incentive and selected for the Berlinale Series Market.

The ceremony was attended by Carlos Brito, Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Portugal in Germany, and Pandora da Cunha Telles of Ukbar Films. “We didn’t choose this location; it chose us” said the creator and producer of the Portuguese series, emphasizing that the project was conceived and written specifically for Figueira da Foz.

The jury awarded the EUFCN Location Award 2025 to La Palma, in the Canary Islands. In addition to the winning locations, Belgrade (Serbia), Inari (Finland) and Sangerhausen (Germany) were also among the finalists.

The competition, which annually distinguishes the best European locations used in film and audiovisual productions, received 13 applications this year, submitted by film commissions and film offices from across Europe. The proposals were evaluated by an international jury composed of industry professionals, who assessed the narrative impact of the locations in their respective film and audiovisual works.
