“From Film to Series” explored the role of the producer in series creation

On Tuesday, October 7, the Cinema São Jorge in Lisbon hosted the second edition of the professional meetings “From Film to Series”, an initiative organized by the Institut Français du Portugal, in partnership with the Portuguese Institute for Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA) and the Portugal Film Commission.

The opening session featured Luís Chaby Vaz, President of the ICA, who emphasized the importance of fostering dialogue between Portuguese and French professionals.

Curated by Carole Desbarats, this edition focused on the role of the producer in the process of creating a series, from the writing stage to their relationship with other key creative players. The discussions also addressed the influence of series on society and politics, the roles of screenwriters, producers and broadcasters, as well as issues related to distribution and transmission.

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to explore several case studies, in a program that concluded with the screening of Douce by Isabelle Lenoble and 37 Seconds by Anne Landois and Sophie Kovess-Brun.

The second edition of “From Film to Series” took place as part of the 26th edition of the Festa do Cinema Francês, which also featured the Luso-Francophone Co-Production Meeting.
