Parque do Rio hotel, in the Portuguese council of Esposende, is one of the finalists for the EUFCN Location Award, the annual prize for European locations in the film and TV industries. The application made by Portugal Film Commission is among the five finalists chosen by European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) jury.
The online voting process takes place here until January 31, 2024. The participants in the voting process have the chance of winning a trip to the winning location of this seventh edition of EUFCN Location Award. The winner will be announced on February 18, at the European Film Market – EFM 2024 in Berlin, Germany.
Among the finalists that came out of the 24 applications are also the Norwegian locations of Helsetkopen (Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One), Jotunheimen (Troll) and Romsdalen Gondola (season 4 of Succession), as well as the island of Inis Mór (The Banshees of Inisherin).
Bad Living, by João Canijo, was entirely shot in Parque do Rio. “The building is great and offers so many plastic and visual possibilities” says the director, adding that “many scenes were invented just to take advantage of the perspectives the location offered. The hotel is the character that sticks this family together”.
The hotel was built in the late 1960s, with a modernist architecture that stands out all over the movie. Bad Living was shot in the early months of 2021, during a COVID-19 lockdown, which meant that the set became the home and workplace of the cast and crew for more than 12 weeks.
