The European Film Market (EFM), the industry event of the Berlin International Film Festival, returned to the German capital from 12 to 18 February 2026. Portugal was present with a stand hosted by the Portuguese Institute of Film and Audiovisual (ICA) and the Portugal Film Commission, which served as a meeting point for Portuguese professionals, offering a dedicated space for work and meetings.
Portugal’s presence in Berlin was marked by several parallel events, notably the ceremony in which Figueira da Foz won the EUFCN Audience Location Award 2025 on 15 February. The application, submitted by the Portugal Film Commission, highlighted the city’s role in Broken Spies, a series supported by Pic Portugal – Cash Rebate Incentive and selected for the Berlinale Series Market 2025.

On 13 February, a networking event jointly organised with the Italian Film Commissions association and the Spain Film Commission brought together around 150 industry professionals at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski. The initiative fostered dialogue on co-production opportunities between the three countries.

The ICA and the Portuguese delegation attending the festival were also invited to a reception hosted by Portugal’s Ambassador to Germany, Madalena Fischer, held at the Portuguese Embassy in Berlin on 16 February.
This 76th edition of the Berlinale featured four Portuguese minority co-productions: Our Secret in the competitive Perspectives section, Narciso, winner of the FIPRESCI Prize in the Panorama section, Gemstones in Forum, and Film Pin in Forum Expanded. As for Portuguese projects at the EFM, particular attention was given to the series Cold Haven and The Marquise, selected for the Berlinale Series Market Selects, as well as Jones, presented at the Berlinale Series Market.
