The Portugal Film Commission took part in the 2026 edition of Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival by hosting a panel discussion on sustainability in production, held on 21 July as part of the Curtas Pro programme.

Moderated by Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission, the session brought together Rodrigo Areias, producer at Bando à Parte, Dörte Schneider Garcia, President of Repensar – Associação de Green Consultants de Portugal, and Rita Lacerda, green consultant, for a discussion on the Portuguese industry’s progress in adopting sustainable practices, as well as the challenges and opportunities arising from their implementation.

Throughout the discussion, the speakers shared their experiences and perspectives on the role of green consultants, highlighting the importance of involving them from the earliest stages of production and fostering close collaboration with production teams. The session also sought to challenge common misconceptions and demonstrate the benefits of implementing sustainability plans in support of more efficient and environmentally responsible productions.

This year’s edition of Curtas Vila do Conde took place from 17 to 26 July, welcoming more than 20,000 participants across film screenings, exhibition visits and the festival’s parallel activities, including the Curtas Pro programme.
