The initiative that led to the first certified Green Consultants training (film/TV) in Portugal is one of the five finalists for the Makers and Shakers Awards, in the category of Film Commission Initiative of the Year. The application made by Portugal Film Commission is amongst the candidates announced this Wednesday, October 18.

The process that originated the first training offer in this topic began in February 2022 and brought together Portugal Film Commission, Universidade Lusófona, Hochschule der Medien (Stuttgart Media University) and the only certified green consultant working in Portugal at the time, Dörte Schneider Garcia.

In November 2022, the certified training was available at Universidade Lusófona and on last May, 10 finalists received their green consultants certificate. Some of these workers already work in the audiovisual market, in this role.

The winners of Makers and Shakers Awards 2023 will be announced at the live awards ceremony taking place at BAFTA Picadilly, in London, on December 6.

Towards more sustainable production

Ecologically sustainable film production sets the tone for this training, targeted for film and audiovisual professionals interested in turning the filming process into an environmentally conscious action. The certification as a green consultant allows professionals to optimize resources or advise producers in this regard, in all phases of production – from script to shooting, editing, and even its release – always with focus on sustainability.

The goal is to maintain the existence of certified green consultants who can fulfil market demand, stimulate film and audiovisual sector to move towards more sustainable production models, promote the implementation of public policies that incentive for companies that implement sustainable production requirements, encourage the creation of other training programmes and, globally, to contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations.
