Portugal Film Commission on the route of international markets in October

Events

The start of the final quarter of 2024 marked a significant period for the Portugal Film Commission, with its participation in several international film and audiovisual industry markets. The Spanish city of Valladolid was the first stop, hosting the Shooting Locations Marketplace, an important business platform for filming locations and production companies.

Over October 15-16, the team met with producers, location managers, and scouts from around the world, showcasing the country’s potential as a filming destination and the incentives offered by Pic Portugal. The round table discussion, themed “I am ready!”, featured Ana Marques, Executive Director of the Portugal Film Commission, alongside Kristine Guzmán from the Castilla y León Film Commission, Tammy Glover of Sony Pictures TV Studios, and Alex Boden of Pistachio Pictures, with Juan Manuel Guimeráns, Secretary-General of the Spain Film Commission, moderating.

At MIPCOM Cannes, one of the most significant audiovisual and international content co-production markets, which took place from October 21-24 in the south of France, the Portugal Film Commission shared a stand with the Association of Independent Television Producers (APIT), RTP, SIC, and TVI.

A highlight of the Portuguese presence at this edition was the “Tune in to Portugal” cocktail on October 22, where the Portuguese audiovisual sector gathered with its international partners. Organised by the Portugal Film Commission, this event offered an evening of networking and experience-sharing on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

From Europe to across the Atlantic

October concluded across the Atlantic, with the Portugal Film Commission participating in the IV Audiovisual Ideas Meeting at the São Paulo International Film Festival, held at the Cinemateca Brasileira from October 24-26. Over three days, Ana Marques led individual meetings with professionals from the Brazilian audiovisual industry.

Promoting opportunities to foster networking and sharing of experiences, the Portugal Film Commission also sponsored a breakfast at the Ideas Meeting on October 25.

This year’s São Paulo International Film Festival programme included 24 Portuguese films, eight of which were supported by the Pic Portugal – Cash Rebate Incentive.
