The Portugal Film Commission team took part in the training programme “It’s Green or Never: Essentials for Film Commissioners“, organised by the EUFCN — European Film Commission Network during November. This initiative aimed to equip film commissions with tools to promote sustainability in cinema and audiovisual production.
Over three sessions, participants were introduced to key sustainability concepts, with discussions on the environmental impact of current production practices. The training provided insights into existing public policies and shared examples of successful practices from various European countries. Participants also explored practical tools and effective strategies to enhance environmental sustainability in productions.
Organised by the EUFCN in collaboration with Green Film and the Trentino Film Commission, the training has empowered the Portugal Film Commission to strengthen its efforts toward fostering environmentally responsible practices in film and audiovisual production. Throughout the training, the team highlighted significant initiatives, including the updated Guide to Sustainable Production.
Environmental sustainability has been established as a key focus for the Portugal Film Commission. In 2024, environmental sustainability criteria were introduced into the regulations governing the Pic Portugal – Cash Rebate Incentive and the Pic Portugal – Cash Refund Incentive.
