Portugal Film Commission returns to the Málaga Festival Market

Events

The Portugal Film Commission once again participated in MAFIZ – Málaga Festival Industry Zone, which took place from 17 to 21 March in Spain. Portugal had a stand in the industry section of the Málaga Festival, which welcomed around a thousand participants from 63 countries.

MAFIZ serves as a business and networking platform for professionals from Europe and Latin America, offering them the opportunity to learn about the Pic Portugal incentives and clarify any questions regarding filming and producing in the country.

On the opening day, the Portugal Film Commission took part in the Ibero-American Breakfast, attended by Juan Antonio Vigar, director of the Málaga Festival. Representatives from various Ibero-American countries exchanged insights on the industry and discussed opportunities for collaboration.

Following the festival’s inaugural session, the Portuguese stand was visited by an official delegation led by Francisco de la Torre, Mayor of Málaga.

Portugal was also represented at the co-production meeting organised by the Dirección General de Cine de República Dominicana (DGCINE) on 20 March. The initiative brought together Dominican producers with professionals from Portugal and Uruguay in a festival edition that featured the Dominican Republic as the “guest country.”

This year’s Málaga Festival featured five Portuguese productions in competition. Una Quinta Portuguesa, a feature film by Spanish director Avelina Prat, supported by the Pic Portugal – Cash Rebate Incentive, had its world premiere at the festival as part of the fiction feature film competition. Another Portuguese co-production in the same section was Lo que Queda de Ti, by Gala Gracia, starring Ruy de Carvalho.
