Portugal has been announced as the Guest of Honour at this year’s edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival, which will take place from June 6 to 14 in that Mexican city. The announcement was made this Sunday at the stand of the Conference of Ibero-American Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities (CAACI) at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin.
Guillermo Gómez Mata, president of the festival, sees this moment as the “beginning of a lasting collaboration,” highlighting that this is the first time Portugal will take center stage at the event.
Luís Chaby Vaz, president of the Portuguese Film and Audiovisual Institute (ICA), film commissioner, and executive secretary of CAACI, emphasized the festival as an opportunity to showcase the “magnificent diversity of Portuguese cinema.” The participation of the Guest of Honour is one of the festival’s most significant cultural exchanges, serving as a window into the history of Portuguese cinematography as well as contemporary national productions.
The Guadalajara International Film Festival is recognized as one of the most important platforms for the appreciation, dissemination, promotion, and distribution of Mexican and Ibero-American cinema, making it one of Latin America’s most prominent film events.
It is worth noting that the Portugal Film Commission and ICA are currently attending the EFM, the industry market of the Berlin International Film Festival, which runs until February 19.
