Several film industry professionals participating in the Jumpgate programme joined a visit organised by the Portugal Film Commission to the municipality of Torres Vedras on Thursday, 24 October.
Among the group were producers and directors from Spain (this edition’s Doclisboa guest country), France, and Mexico, who had the chance to visit Santa Cruz. There, they learned about the coastal town’s influence on the works of poets such as João de Barros, Kazuo Dan, and Antero de Quental.
At the former premises of the Institute of Vine and Wine (IVV) in Torres Vedras, the Portugal Film Commission presented its work, along with Pic Portugal and its financial incentives. Paula Astorga, director of Doclisboa, and Joana Cunha Ferreira, festival programmer, led the Jumpgate working session—a think tank reflecting on the current challenges facing by the industry. The discussion continued over lunch, hosted by Torres Vedras City Council.
Later that day, Luís Chaby Vaz, Film Commissioner and President of the Portuguese Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA), joined Paula Astorga at the opening of the Nebulae, Arché, and Green Years award ceremonies at Culturgest, which also hosted the Portugal Film Commission Cocktail Reception.
Jumpgate aims to foster knowledge exchange among European producers with diverse backgrounds and experience levels in film production, held annually within Doclisboa. This edition also included invited directors for a “creative and critical immersion,” supported by France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Institut Français.
